The Hop, the vine
Philip George presents to you wines of the New World.
The selection of wines I am introducing to you are not usually found in the north of England. We have on our list wines from France, Italy and Spain but The Hop, the vine specialises in wines from Australia, New Zealand, S.Africa, Chile, U.S.A. and more lately Argentina. I say more lately because I have found Zuccardi, a family owned vineyard in Mendoza that shouts New World. New World wines to me are exciting wines with fruit and real flavour to the fore, they are wines to enjoy on a quiet evening with your good lady, or your good man, or your good friends, and not present simply to complement food. Try a New World merlot, though, with gently grilled tuna ? perfect. We can only give you a small taster of our range of wines at Corbridge, so be adventurous and enter our New World of wine.

Fasol Menin
Fasol Menin is a family owned winery that specialises in the production of Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene DOCG
The winery (or cantina) sits within its own vineyards in the hills around Valdobbiadene, the traditional heart of the Prosecco growing area and now home to the Guaranteed Reserve Superiore.

The winery is new but has been designed with sympathy for the landscape and represents the spirit of the owners, Silvana and Massimo de Nardo.
This dynamic couple with their great sensitivity for local, national and international artists have created a place dedicated to art; the art of making superb Prosecco alongside regular musical events, theatre and exhibitions of painting, sculpture and photography.
To this warm environment where Bacchus and the Muses come together, Silvana and Massimo offer a personal welcome to their visitors. They share with them their knowledge of the winery and explain how best to enjoy their award-winning Prosecco Superiore Brut and Extra Dry wines.
Fasol Menin Prosecco wines are only available directly from the winery or online (including phone) and can be shipped worldwide. In the UK, Fasol Menin wines are available from our UK partner Stuart Colmer who stocks the full range and deals with orders quickly, accurately and on time.

Fasol Menin will be showing the following at the NEWF
Cama : Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut: £13.99 2 TOKENS
Fasol Menin Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Brut
With lower residual sugar of 9 grammes per litre, Fasol Menin Brut is the epitome of sparkling wines.
With more prominent bubbles and a very clean nose rich in citrus fruit and vegetable notes, it displays pleasant hints of bread crust.
Leonte : Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry: £13.99 2 TOKENS
With 15.5 grammes per litre of residual sugar the Extra Dry is the “classic” Prosecco.
It makes the perfect aperitif, and pairs well with vegetable soups, lightly-sauced pasta, seafood, white meats, and fresh cheese.
The colour is a brilliant straw-yellow, and on the nose, the bouquet is fresh and complex, with hints of flowers and notes of apple, pear, and citrus fruit.
On the palate it is velvety, dry and rich.
Faccia di Botte Raboso DOC 2006: £13.99 2 TOKENS
Raboso Piave is a sort of thoroughbred and hard to tame. It has a very long growing season and is the first variety to germinate and one of the last to be harvested. This makes it unique, almost extraordinary among all the Piave grape varieties; its strong and hard nature might be the reason why it was disregarded for some time. To get the best out of it a winemaker must be patient and ready to accept the challenge. A strong full bodied wine, 40% of the Raboso harvest is aged in barriques and the rest in large oak barrels for at least 18 months. Following bottling, the wine is stored for a further 8 months
Cecchetto Cabernet Sauvignon DOC 2006: £7.99 1 TOKEN
A pleasant wine to come home to relax to.....
As a young wine, this cabernet sauvignon has a deep ruby red colour and is a pleasant wine to drink, with a full bouquet that contains a spicy aroma.
It a has a dry, full and long lasting flavour, which becomes more gentle as the wine ages..
Cecchetto Pinot Grigio DOC 2006: £7.99 1 TOKEN
A refreshing cool enjoyable drink - any night of the week...
Pinot Gris, which grows well in dry alluvial soils, is one of the most important and widespread grape varieties in the world.
The wine has a luminous straw yellow colour, and a characteristic bouquet which smells of the countryside in summer at the time of haymaking. Dry, velvety and well balanced flavour.
Introvigne Merlot DOC 2004: £7.99 1 TOKEN
This noble and ancient vine yields a red wine characterised by a deep ruby colour with garnet red shades and with vinous scents of red forest fruits and a delicate herbaceous taste. This supple and well-balanced Merlot D.O.C. is medium-bodied, slightly tannic and acidulous, with a moderate alcohol content. A versatile partner for a wide range of dishes, it goes particularly well with main courses like risotto, as well as with meat and delicate cheeses.
The Grape Unknown
The Grape Unknown is a family business specialising in the sale of quality French wines from small-scale, artisan producers.
It was set up by Northumberland farmer John Lognonne, who has a great passion for the wine of his father's homeland, and his daughter Anna.
All of the wines sold by The Grape Unknown have been personally selected by John from producers who take a great pride in their work, as shown by the many awards and accolades they have received.
By going off the beaten track during his numerous wine trips to France, John has managed to unearth some hidden treasures from a number of different regions, enabling the Grape Unknown to offer wines which are not available on the supermarket shelves.
The lure of making new discoveries remains strong, with John travelling back to France this month to bring in some more wines especially for the North East Wine Festival.
